Room names for Rosewood KHOS hotel concept

Rosewood’s KHOS concept reimagined the hotel for a younger, digitally-connected customer. See brochure copy here.

They came into a problem with the room names, however. The old names would not work, like ‘presidential suite’ or whatever. But what would work? That was my task. Come up with a new concept for the room names.

Across The Pond had ideas:

  • Types of brainwaves (one type of room is gamma, another is delta, etc.);

  • Tech figures from history (Berners Lee, Jobs, Tesla, etc.).

To my mind this wasn’t intuitive enough. I wanted something natural to this digital generation. So I looked at top-end digital products. Smartphones, MacBooks, etc. They all follow the same format: a product name like iPhone or Galaxy, followed by their sequence in the series or by their specifications. Galaxy Z Fold. MacBook Pro 14-Inch. iPhone 14 Plus.

Now apply the same concept to the guestrooms, coding each room’s attributes into the name.

  • Sleep S32 Garden = Suite 32m² with a garden view

  • Sleep P65 Skyline = Penthouse 65m² with a skyline view

  • Gather G12 Boardroom = Seats 12, boardroom configuration

Lot of fun to play with what elements you could encode and what’s intuitive and what’s not.
